Picnic Prep + Checklist

G and I have opposite work schedules so when we have the weekends to ourselves it’s a great treat that we try to take advantage of. This weekend I decided to plan an intimate picnic at the park located near a beautiful neighbourhood in Toronto. However, when the day crept closer I reckoned it was time to make a list of things I needed to have ready for this picnic (of course, a list, who else is NOT surprised at this notion). Luckily for me, we have a picnic knapsack at home that has never been used (shocking), so we finally put it to use. I composed a picnic checklist that I personally believe are essentials. Enjoy 🙂

Picnic Checklist:
Picnic Knapsack (mine is made to serve 2,includes: acrylic glasses, melamine plates, cotton napkins, cutting board, utensils, salt & pepper shaker, corkscrew and table cloth) Our knapsack is insulated to store cold beverages and has a wine pouch.

*if you do not have a picnic knapsack, invest in a durable tote and grab the essentials at your local wal-mart or dollarama*

Food: Stick with sandwiches, wraps, single serve cold pastas (try to avoid anything with mayo or cream). We kept juice boxes and water in the insulated unit but I would recommend a portable cooler if needed. Avoid glass containers, stick to plastic bottles or juice boxes.

Location: Choose a park that is well maintained, has plenty of trees for shade and facilities where you can toss your garbage or a water fountain.

Christmas seems to be that time of year where people naturally like to come together and enjoy each other’s presence- seems nice. For those of you who love organizing small get-togethers or Christmas / holiday parties, this post is for you! Every year I find myself planning some sort of Christmas related party but of course as the years roll by, you start to think of how to up this year’s festivities. I’ve composed a handful of ideas that will work for any size group and with any budget!

1. The Usual: “Potluck + Ugly Sweater Party”
Nothing wrong with having the typical usual sweater potluck party. It’s fun, tacky and the more food the merrier I say. Try to limit each guest with one item or a beverage/alcohol of some sort- this will help avoid an abundance of food. 2. The Sweet Tooth: “Dessert Bar & Crafts” Do your friends and family members have a sweet tooth? Why not host a Dessert Bar party and fill it with yummy treats such as an ice cream bar with multiple choices of flavours and toppings. Add some variation with different cakes, pies , salty treats and beverages. Have a DIY cookie or cupcake decorating station to add some fun in the mix.
