Holiday Coffee Table Decor

We have an odd coffee table in our main living room. It’s black (classic-good) but it separates into two (unique- good and bad). It’s great for entertaining as we leave the higher level decorated with coffee table essentials (decor, plates and napkins) and leave apps and snacks sitting on the bottom half. Most of the time though, we tuck the bottom part away and leave the table “as one”.

Today I share with you a few coffee table decor options for the holiday season!

Bathroom Makeover Part 2: Before and After

Well, I guess this took longer than I anticipated, but to be honest I am not surprised. I posted my Bathroom Makeover Part 1: Inspiration Board well over a few months ago. The project only took off about a month ago – and went by very slow.  I’m oddly glad that it happened this way because there were minor tweaks I made along the way that if I hadn’t made them, it would cause disappointed in the future. Anyway, let’s get to the fun part of the before and after shots and chat about what we changed.

I gave myself a budget of $120 for my bathroom “makeover”. I wanted to freshen up the space without breaking the bank.

First, I had to tackle the wall colour. I’m not exactly sure how much wine I had when I thought that my previous wall colour was even an option. It was dull and did nothing for my small bath room space. I knew it was going to do anything new with the bathroom, it would be changing the wall colour (even if it was going to be the only thing).

I still went with my preliminary choice of wall colour Breath of Fresh Air by Benjamin Moore– beyond thrilled with the outcome. It truly is a breath of fresh air- pun intended.

Where I once had an odd mirror/frame I have now replaced with my vision of “filling a wall with frames”. I individually designed the art you see in the frames (minus the Hello, which can found at SS Print Shop or Chapters.) I decided to stick with the black and white frames and various sizes to help create depth to my small space.

I also wanted to get rid of the old shower curtain and rug. If I went with a plain shower curtain, I would do my rug in print and vice versa. Due to the fact that I did a wall full of frames, I thought that the shower curtain had to be plain- just to even things out.  The shower curtain I purchased was from (Homesense) and is a white on white waffle print , the hotel collection. My chic rug is also from Homesense (shocking!)

I added an additional storage unit (purchased from Homesense as well, clearance) to the corner of my washroom which houses magazines (you know, bathroom essentials) and a silver mirror/ jeweled tray that holds three 3 wix scented candles.

It effectively cures internal erection issues, improves blood flow and treats muscle tissues of the blood vessels. cialis prescription cost Anyone who is able to achieve erection and is using Kamagra then this medicine will not show any special effect on the viagra generic discount body. Except for a few exceptions, it is usually resulted by deformation of penis, possibly by an injury. http://raindogscine.com/tag/premios-morosoli/ levitra prescription There are cialis best prices many other significant points that should be considered . Since I removed my towel rack, I added a small 14″ w shelf (from Target) with small white hand towels. I decorated the rest of the shelf with a cursive A (from Michaels) and a faux potted plant (Ikea). I really wanted to go all out and replicate the shelf in my inspiration board, but upon further observation, it didn’t really scream “bathroom” in my opinion.

I replaced the mirror in my washroom with one from the basement as it was larger and more fitting in terms of colour scheme. I left my good ol’ black tray and just kept daily used products on it and purchased a new water glass and added my miniature rubber ducky :).

Now for some eyecandy.

Overall, I am happy with the finished product of my makeover. It truly feels like a new space and one that I actually want to sit in after a long day of work and just brew up in a warm bubble bath.

So ladies and gents, any makeovers in the making? How did those turn out? We hope you enjoyed our post!

What to prepare for the Guest Bedroom

If you have a guest bedroom, it’s not often used throughout the year unless of course your relatives live out of town or you entertain often and have overnight guests. At our home, we usually have stay the night guests when the holiday season rolls around.

I typically like to arrange the guest bedroom and areas of the washroom so that guests feel as comfortable and at home as possible. Today I share some quick tips on how to get the guest bedroom and bathroom ready!

1. Fresh Linens
They don’t have to be pressed nor new- just fresh and clean.

2. Layered Bedding
Not everyone feels the same in all room temperatures. Ensure that the bed has multiple layers. A bed sheet, a top cover and an additional blanket- you don’t want your guests to feel cold and you also want them to have the option to sleep as bare as possible.

3. Treat Stash
We like to leave a couple of water bottles, some mini snack packs and chocolates in a basket on the side table. You never know when hunger strikes and you want your guest to help themselves on their own accord.

4. Fresh Towels
If you have a guest bathroom, make the towels accessible and “in view”. If you have a main bathroom, leave the fresh towels on top of the bed so they are not “hounding you” for one.

5. Toiletries and others
Keep a small basket with common toiletries that they may need or perhaps forgot. Tampons, pads, travel sized mouth wash, tooth brushes and tooth paste. My secret? I store all of my toothbrushes that I get from the dentist in a storage bin. I now have over 10 and trust me- they come in handy. I also make a trip to dollarama and stock up on travel sized items so I don’t feel like I am constantly re-purchasing product.

Create a fun cart for overnight guests with snacks and extra toiletries! via abeautifulmess.com
Loved this idea that I found from abeautifulmess.com. This of course is not a requirement but a great idea to have that can be reused as most guests won’t use up the whole cart at once. Not only is everything in one place, but it’s appealing to the eye and easy to access.

6. Personal Note
This is optional but why not. Leave a cute bedside note for your guests with a warm message, perhaps let them know of what time you plan on serving breakfast.

7. Clutter Free
Just ensure the guest bedroom free from clutter. You want your guests to feel comfortable and relaxed.

8. Scent
Light some candles beforehand or lightly spray the room in a mild scent. The guestroom is not used often so it can become stuffy and stale.

So ladies and gents, how do you prepare for over night guests?

DIY Christmas Tassel Garland

Tassel garland can be a great addition to the home for any occasion or even for year round home decor. Last year we gave our fireplace a facelift by simply painting the brick. It’s now the focal point of the living room and instantly brightens up the space. We thought that it would be a great idea to add a Christmas Tassel Garland above the fireplace to give it additional character as fire places can be tricky to decorate due to it’s nature.

No fireplace? No worries. Decorate a bare wall, a door frame, get creative with your garland placement!
tissuepaperWhat you’ll need:

  • Tissue Paper (my colour theme was green, gold and red)
  • Holographic Tissue Paper **(optional, I used a gold/silver one as the centre tissue pom pom)**
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun or Tape
  • Cord
  • Pencil
  • Christmas nicknacks **(optional)**

You’ll need to decide how fluffy and how long you want your tissue paper pom poms. The fluffier you want it, the more tissue paper you’ll need. Keep in mind this, when you are cutting the tissue paper into strips, that length will be the size of your pom pom. I took a normal sheet of tissue paper, cut it in half and folded it once and used that to create 1 pom pom.
photo 1Take your folded tissue paper and create a 1.5-2 inch line from side to side with a pencil.

Cut vertical strips about 1cm in width all the way to the marked line. Repeat until your whole tissue paper is in strips.

photo 2Unfold your tissue paper and flip the tissue paper vertically. Start folding at the centre and be sure to move the strips as it will get caught while you start folding.

Once the tissue paper has been folded at the centre, twist the centre and loop it. Take hot glue to make the two sides stick or use tape to secure.

Set aside and work on the rest of your pom poms. They can be different sizes and colours- get as creative as you’d like.

photo 1(1)Once that is done, get your cord and ribbon and feed the pom poms through the loop you created for them.

To secure the pom poms from moving once you hang them, you can hot glue them to the cord or tape them (this is optional but they may slide to the centre if you don’t secure them).

A Glimpse of Holiday Decor

The house is slowly starting to transform, the fire place logs have been purchased in bulk and in Canada, the snow has already arrived! We may be 37 days (who’s counting) from Christmas, but I never wait till December 1st to take out the holiday decor, does anyone?

I decided to share a couple of photos of some home decor pieces we’ve pulled out. We are simply dusting off the Christmas Penguins (kidding- they are out year round) and making the transition of adding gold, silver, green and red anywhere we can. Plus, we add some iconic holiday ornaments just to make it more festive.
