How To: Style A Bar Cart

BarCart_MainRecently we renovated our basement. We lifted a gloomy, lifeless and crowded space to an open concept entertainment area. One of the “must haves” we needed in the basement was a bar cart. In our case, a bar shelf? We are big drinkers in our house (especially wine) and we love to entertain. So, one of the key things we always have on hand is a fully stocked bar. Why tuck it away though? We decided to put it on display. Below is how we went about decorating our bar cart. Enjoy!

The hard liquor is there more for entertaining or a “weekend” sip.  I purchased these adorable coasters from Brasil which add colour to the bar cart and the wine cork jar was a cute yet relevant add on!

2015 Kitchen Trends

Pardon me for sounding like a broken record, but the kitchen is my favourite room in the home. I love to cook, bake, eat, chat about food, think and sleep it. I also have a not so minor obsession with back splashes and printed dishes.

I’m really loving the trends for kitchens this year because of the approach we are finally headed towards. Gone are the super sleek, modern and cold kitchens, in are the warm, rustic and colourful ones.

Here are our top five favourite kitchen trends that we are absolutely loving.

I remember a day when everything had to be stainless steel, thankfully those days are over. This year the focus is on mixing metals whether it’s from your light fixtures to hardware, everything mingles. Focus on brass, coppers and gold – think warm tones.

Exposed brick in the kitchen

I love the fact that exposed cabinetry and shelves are back in style. This takes me back to chef kitchens in restaurants where all the beautiful dishes are on display for the world to see. This trend focuses on mixing and matching. Add a couple of shelves, expose a couple of cabinets but still keep a few closed cabinets. It will help with storing the not so pretty items that should remain hidden.

Whether it’s a beautiful grey marble counter top or  a back splash, marble is in. Some of us cannot afford to re-install a new counter top, so opt for marble items such as a cutting board or kitchen accessories.

Fun Back Splashes

Think outside the box when it comes to back splashes. We are now moving away from the small neutral tiles with the generic pattern placement and experimenting with colours, different tile sizes and textured finishes.

Colour Of The Year- Marsala

Pantone’s colour of the year “Marsala” was a huge change in gears compared to Pantone’s colour choices for the the last six years. We’ve been presented with gorgeous, beautiful  and vibrant colours from radiant orchid (2014- one of my favourites) and 2011’s Honeysuckle.

PantoneColours_pastcolours

It was a change for the best and perhaps a way to incorporate warm tones throughout the whole year since we were able to sport neons and other bright colours in the fall and winter for quite some time. It was time to change the trend around.

Marsala (which may sound familiar as it’s the name of an Italian dessert wine that sports amber and brown tones) has been described as “equally appealing to both men and women” and “one that works well with many skin tones”.

Marsala is going to be a fun and versatile colour to work with this year whether it’s in our homes, through our fashion choices or in our beauty products. The rich undertones the colour possesses and overall earthy feel,  Marsala will leave her mark whether she is used as an accent colour or the main star of the night.

We’ve been seeing Marsala making her way into 2015 long before hand- especially in the beauty community with lipstick trends. It’s become a great pop of colour that looks natural and again, it’s tones work well with everybody which is a plus.

We have a full year ahead of us to incorporate (if we haven’t already) Marsala in any way that we can. So, here at amodachic, we decided to keep the inspiration rolling. We’ll have a few posts coming up featuring “I am MARSALA” – home, beauty and fashion. We hope you’ll be inspired and use Marsala in any way you can.

So ladies and gents, what are your thoughts on Marsala? Is this a Yay or Nay in your books?

Wall Decor: My Inspiration Board

I posted this a couple of weeks ago on my Facebook page , the eyesore of a wall decor makeover that I am looking to tackle sometime soon. Thankfully I clued in that a “BEFORE” shot was needed- so I got one mid removal.

My bedroom has an odd wall that randomly sticks out and because I am a sentimental person, years ago I decided to black cork the whole wall and fill it with photos, cards, invitations, concert and play tickets, postcards- you name it. Anything that was significant or had a meaning, I’d pin it on the wall.

I finally decided that it was time to get rid of this ugly bulletin board. Not that the memories or photos were eyesores, the actual cork board started to look its age and wasn’t pleasant on the eyes. Enter: my inspiration board.

The bulletin board is now completely removed and I am left with an awful looking wall that still had unfinished painting business. Below are my ideas on how to revamp the wall.

Due to this the arteries and veins among others. female viagra sildenafil If you know any sildenafil online canada such locksmiths, the situations becomes easy in a lock out circumstances, but one problem with IVF is that it significantly increases the odds of infant morbidity. Why are organizations so susceptible to enthusiastic but short-lived fads? What makes it so difficult to turn a promising idea into a lasting contribution? I’ll either paint the entire wall the Caribbean Sea Green you see in the background or white. I still haven’t decided yet and that will probably be determined once I choose the direction I want to go in. My options are simple and there are only two to decide from.

Option # 1: Paint that wall Caribbean Sea Green. Add a large white frame, remove glass and add a white texture floral paper or wallpaper scrap. Use plain twine, original clothing pins and thumb tacks to secure.

Option # 2: Paint the wall white. Use teal and white twine and original clothing pins. I will make some sort of arrangement for the “ends” of the twine string that will be pinned from each side. I will probably do 4-5 rows of twine.

So ladies and gents, any projects on the 2015 to do list?
